Run The Dream Events

On April 11th, 2008 We hosted a Family Fun Event to welcome the Run The Dream Team to our area.  This event was a huge success.  We raised $875.00 for Run The Dream and local programming here in the South and Central Region.

Thank you to Mayor Rex Barnes, fellow council members, MHA Susan Sullivan and Miss Teen Newfoundland and Labrador, Laura Woodworth for attending this event, and helping us raise much needed awareness to Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I would also like to thank, Joe Dominix for providing great entertainment for the event.  the Grand Falls Windsor Country Line Dance Crew for attending the event and performing for us.  The Grand Falls-Windsor Search and Rescue dept. for coming out with "Punta the Polar Bear" the kids loved him.

Thank you to all the local businesses who donated to us, we could not have done it without you!!

We raised a lot of awareness at this event as well, with media coverage from Rogers Cable (being aired Tuesday April 15th, 2008 and from The Advertise and VOCM.  With more events such as this, people will start to better understand ASD and hopefully become more understanding and respectful to the families and people who deal with it daily.

There are several pictures on our facebook site and on this website from the event.  For further pictures and information about Run The Dream please go to www.runthedream.ca

Thank-You

ASNL had a busy summer.  We had several programs and events running, all of which were a success.

(1) Annual Summer Day Camp at The Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp.  This year we had a blast, with nature walks, a carnival, face painting, games, playground activities, campfire and fireworks.  This kids had a wonderful time and we are looking forwarding to putting it off again next summer!!!

(2) Summer Art Program - This was also a success, the children who took part had great opportunities to express this creative sides through several mediums, painting, sketching, play doh just to mention a few.  This was a great success and sensory heaven for the little ones (some parents too !!)  A fall session is in place as well, see PROGRAMS tab for details.

(3) Summer Swimming Lessons - The children loved the water, they could learn to swim, float or just splash around in a quiet private environment, with one-on-one instructing.  The parents loved this as well, gave the moms and dads a chance to socialize and the kiddies had an awesome sensory experience.  A fall session is in place for this as well.

(4) We have just hired a full time position for four months here in central. Nicole Lewis had been hired as our new Program Coordinator.  This a brand new pilot project, first of it's kind in NL.  We are proud to announce this and feel Nicole will be great asset to the ASNL team.

We will be posting many more updates and pictures very soon.
